Work Experience Student

This week MediaCorp Online were joined by a 4th year pupil, Jenna Hillis from Cardinal Newman High School in Bellshill (My Former School) for a weeks work experience as a web developer. In an attempt to make the week as worth while as possible for her, we decided to set her an ambitious task of designing a web site on recycling, particulary local recycling. Recycling is something that high on the agenda here at MediaCorp Online so we though it would be a worthwhile project. We’ll here is the result of Jenna’s hard work http://www.recycle-lanarkshire.co.uk. We’d just like to say a big thank you to Jenna who really excelled herself particularly with Fireworks (Graphic design application from Abobe, not the sky rocket variety :)). Good luck in the future Jenna!!!!

DigiTV Plugin for North Lanarkshire Council

One of our more cutting-edge developments just went live recently!. We’ve customised North Lanarkshire’s online PC booking and library item booking program for delivery via Digital TV, in conjunction with DigiTV (http://www.digitv.gov.uk/). As DigiTV announce in their May newsletter (http://www.digitv.gov.uk/site/content/view/82/60/), the application enables ‘a user to reserve a book from the comfort of their sofa. Better than that, this service will enable the user on TV to book a time slot on one of their library PC's.... this truly is digital inclusion in action.’ The application was part of a recent presentation given to Baroness Andrews, the Minister for Switchover from analog to digital television, and she was suitably impressed! The development uses a mixed platform base of Web server, digital tv and mobile telephones, and is the perfect example of Mediacorp Online being switched on to flexible learning. Bothwellpark High School, Motherwell Lands End to John O’Groats (and back) Sponsored Cycle

Bothwellpark staff, pupils, parents, friends and supporters began (2nd April 2007) their next adventure to raise the funds required to purchase a new minibus for the school. Hot on the heels of last months sell out Variety Show in Motherwell Concert Hall they have got on their bikes and will spend the next 12 days between 10am and 4pm covering approximately 2,000 miles, the distance from Lands End to John O’Groats and back in the foyer of Asda, Motherwell. Pictured is James Marshall from MediaCorp who have supplied the school with t-shirts for the event, Vicki Greenhill from Amey who funded the 12 mountain bikes which are to be raffled off and David Graham from JJB who have supplied and built the bikes at a reduced rate. Brian Boyle, Asda manager & Joanne Shaw, Asda Events co-ordinator who have worked closely with the school over the last few months to ensure success with our fundraising are also pictured. Local Red Bull MotoGP Rookie Cup racer, Dean Brown, who lives next to the school also came along to lend his support as well as starting cyclists Ross Williamson a second year pupil at Bothwellpark and Brian Gilmour, Depute Head Teacher. Brian Gilmour said that the school would like to thank everybody who has supported this fundraising event either financially or through donating their time. Most of the people in the photograph today will be back at some point over the next twelve days to join in so there is a real community effort to this event which is exactly what we wanted.

Studyit Online RSS Reader now supports Podcasts!

There’s been a lot of talk and usage over the last few years of podcasting. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, podcasting is essentially a standard way of broadcasting a series of audio, video or pdf files. Users can subscribe to podcasts in applications such as itunes and the latest podcast is downloaded automatically for viewing or listening too on your ipod, mobile phone, pc or similar device with a suitable media player.
Click here to find out more about it.

Studyit Online (our learning management sytem) now has a podcasting feature in which administrators can add and track itunes compliant podcasts. Learners can then open or subscibe to the podcasts straight for the learner home page. Administrators can also publish the podcasts to the itunes store for sharing. Podcasting is still relatively new in the corporate learning environment but were hoping this addition to Studyit will help our customers utilise the proven benefits. One of the more obvious benefits is it allows you to add a variety of high quality FREE learning content to your Studyit Online site. For more information please email us contact@mediacorp.co.uk
